News from Room 208
Dear Families,
Instead of sending home a weekly letter, I will start giving you our weekly news on our class website. The first thing I want you to know is that we have a wonderful class blog full of the children's writing and artwork. Please visit it at upark208.posterous.com We looked at it quickly today in class and the children said they'd love it if you could post comments. It's fun to have this home-school connection.
In class, we're continuing to practice for the TCAP (formerly known as the CSAP) reading test. The children are becoming experts at writing summaries and finding answers to questions in the text. Ask your child about Mrs. Armitage and the characters from a story called All I See named Gregory and Charlie. We spent quite a bit of time with them this morning! In math, we've been practicing Open Responses, which are open-ended, mult-stepped problems in which the children need to show their work and write about their thinking. Your child's unit 6 math test on Geometry is in today's Thursday folder. Please review it with him/her. We went through the test twice because the kids weren't reading the directions, so they had a chance to reread the questions and make corrections. I will post some samples of Open Responses on our blog, as well as some of the children's Quick Writes. Ms. Nelson and I are thrilled with the progress they're making!!
Tomorrow,.our class will participate in Junior Achievement Day. A volunteer from DU will come to our room to share lessons about the city of Denver, as part of our social studies curriculum. Next week, we'll post blog entries letting you know what we did.
I have a couple of reminders and requests.....Science Fair projects are due on Tuesday, February 7th. The children will perform the play they've been learning with Mr. Herman on February 13 in the auditorium at 10:45 am. Parents and other guests are most welcome to come. We are running out of some supplies, so, if you can, please send in another package of dry-erase markers and a package of pencils. Thank you!
Happy snowy weekend,
Anne & Ashley
